We will be hosting The Big Bowls Weekend in May and the club will be open on Friday 26th from 6 to 8pm, Sunday 28th from 10.30 to 3.30pm and Monday 29th from 1.30 to 4.30pm when anyone is welcome to come along and have a game of bowls. Our coaches will be available to give advice and instruction. All you need to do is wear a pair of flat soled shoes and we will provide the rest. We have recently purchased four sets of junior bowls and would welcome both primary and secondary children to come along to the club for some bowls coaching and to enjoy a game. We will hopefully be holding Saturday morning sessions for young people this season.
Hanborough Bowls Club originally started out as an indoor short mat club in the late 1980s, moving to an outdoor club in 1996. A new clubhouse was then built and officially opened in March 2000.
At present we have 50+ members with a roughly equal ratio of men to women players. We are affiliated to Bowls England and Bowls Oxfordshire. This season we have entered the mixed triples league and our ladies play in the West Oxon Ladies League. We also have mixed friendly games at weekends throughout the season. Roll-ups are held every Monday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm and Fridays from 6.00pm when people who are interested in joining the club are encouraged to come along and enjoy a game with our members. We have two trained coaches and coaching is always available to new players and those who just want to improve their bowling.
Subscription for full membership is £60.00 per season - new members pay only £30.00 for their first bowling season.
During the winter months we play indoor short mat bowls and have two teams in the West Oxon League. We also hold our own club indoor league competition with up to eight teams taking part each season. We are affiliated to ESMBA and OSMBA for short mat.
We hold many social events throughout the year in the clubhouse. These are very enjoyable, well supported events open to members and their family and friends.
We have a bowls tour each year, normally in June, for four days and this year we will be based in Torquay.
Hanborough Bowls Club is a stone’s throw from Blenheim Palace and the historic town of Woodstock, and therefore perfect for touring teams who are always made very welcome by the club.
There is ample car parking space at the club which is situated on the playing fields site in Roosevelt Road, just off the main A4095 from Witney to Woodstock.
